We all become a bit preoccupied with monitoring the weather as the holiday season begins. The minor thing we need to do is put our UAS in jeopardy by flying it in bad weather. However, even the most dependable weather applications can fail at times.
In that case, how does the weather impact the DJI Mini 2? It would help if you did not fly your Mini 2 in severe weather conditions such as winds of ten m/s, snow, rain, fog, or excessive heat or cold.
Furthermore, in cold weather, the battery’s performance will reduce. And flying above 13,123 feet (4,000 meters) above sea level has not suggested. Therefore, before you look for an aerial surveying drone, let’s begin!
How Strong Is The Wind That The DJI Mini 2 Can Withstand?
You might imagine it because the DJI Mini 2 carries less than 250 g (0.55 lbs). Any strong breeze will send it flying to a galaxy far, far away. While the Mini 2 appears little and fragile, DJI claims it can survive gusts of about 22 miles/hour (36 kilometers per hour).
Is this correct? The tiny drone in the DC Rainmaker video is fighting wind gusts of more than 31 miles per hour (50 km/h). World of Ozz, a YouTuber, claims his Mini 2 has tested against wind gusts of 55 mph (88 km/h).
Is The DJI Mini 2 Water-Resistant?
Once I landed the Mini 2, I found the weather it was fighting was harsher than I imagined. I have too focused on the aircraft and how it handled the wind to see how hard it was raining. Hence, when I looked down at my controller, it was covered with water drips. My gloves and jacket have soaked.
DJI Mini 2 & Hot Temperatures
Because you’re one of those folks who, like me, it despises the cold. So, while everyone else is enjoying the cold winter season, you’re off to a lovely Caribbean beach.
Perhaps you like the solitude of the desert apart from other tourists. So, no worries! With a little more caution, you may fly your drone in hot weather just like you would in snow.
Tips for Flying in Hot Weather
I will enjoy a couple of flights this summer when my video stream abruptly stops working. After a couple of weeks, I am so happy to fly again that I overlook that the temperature has risen like a rocket to more than 104°F (40°C). I am performing a test flight as if I am examining some electrical towers. Thus losing the video feed is quite harmful for the commercial drone inspection.
The Bottom Line
This has a year since the DJI Mini 2 was officially released… Time flies… I purchased mine in January but did not begin flying it until mid-March. It has become one of the best moves I have ever made. The speculations began earlier this year.
However, the DJI Mini 2 was not released until November 2021. New competitors have appeared in the months afterward. But the Chinese giant’s product remains the most popular and well-reviewed micro drone on the market.
